Here are a few facts about using Tanning Salon Lotions.
How are Tanning Salon lotions better than what I can purchase at the drugstore or supermarket? Over-the-counter lotions do not contain the necessary ingredients that will maximize your tanning results and extend the life of your tan. Moreover, mass market products do not replenish as effectively any lost moisturization that occurs during the tanning process. Indoor tanning lotions are “bio-engineered” specifically for indoor tanning.
I think I tan better without a lotion. So why should I use one? This erroneous belief can be easily rectified once clients actually understand the tanning process. For example, indoor tanning and UV exposure can be dehydrating to the skin. Tanning lotions will help to replenish any moisture that has been depleted during the tanning session, thereby improving your results. Not only will you get a darker tan, you will tan more quickly and it will last longer.
Can I use Tanning Salon lotion outdoors? It is not recommended to use Tanning Salon lotion outdoors simply because they do not contain an SPF. Indoor tanning is a controlled environment unlike outdoor exposure. We highly recommend using sun protection when tanning outdoors.
Why you can't use an “outdoor” tanning lotion/baby oil in the bed?
"Outdoor" lotions are prohibited in the salon due to the damage they cause to the tanning equipment. In addition to giving inferior tanning results, outdoor tanning lotions contain ingredients such as mineral oil that actually damage the acrylics.

Tanning Moisturizers
No matter if you choose to use the tanning bed, or the natural sun, one thing is certain: you should never forget your daily moisturizer. Moisturizing your skin is very important.
How moisturizing can help your tan:
Expert tanners will tell you that it is much easier to get a great tan when your skin is supple and moisturized. In fact, if you have dry skin you will get up to 50% less tan.
You can choose to do several things to intensify you tan. First you can choose to use tanning bed lotions. Many tanning bed lotions will also have bronzers and accelerators in them to help you get a tanned look in the shortest amount of time. Second, you can apply an after-tan moisturizer to extend your tan up to 25% longer.
